Privateer Papers - Revolutionary War, 1775-1789.

Collection consists of documents related to Privateer activities during the Revolutionary War. Documents include: ship passports; crew lists; receipts; a printed circular from the Treasury Department about American vessels captured by foreign ships of war; Customs House documents; ships' accounts; Articles of Agreement; Revolutionary War currency; legal documents; correspondence; and transcripts of the role of Philadelphia ships and the Revolutionary War. Both American Privateer and British Ships of War are represented in the collection.

Dudley Woodbridge was born in Stonington, Conn. on Oct. 9, 1747. After graduating from Yale University in 1766, he moved on Norwich, Conn. He married Lucy Backus on Apr. 28, 1774. George Washington (b. Feb. 22, 1732, Westmoreland County, Va.-d. Dec. 14, 1799, Mount Vernon, VA) was the first president of the United States, serving from 1789 to 1797.
